Previously, in 2 Samuel 6 we met a man named Uzzah who taught us a valuable lesson in restraint and the dangers of knee-jerk reactions.
Later in that same chapter we are introduced to Obed-Edom.
After Uzzah’s demise, David hesitates to take the Ark of the Covenant (God’s Presence) to Jerusalem and instead sends it to Obed-Edom’s home where it remained for three months.
Later David was informed that “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and EVERYTHING he has because of the Ark of God.” 2 Sam 6:12
And it is here in Obed-Edom’s home, we witness the incredible power of The Presence of the Almighty.
When we invite God into our homes and and include Him in our lives, we as well as our family and all we possess are blessed by Him.
In fact, all through the Word, we see the benefits of walking closely with the Father.
He promises safety reminding us throughout our lives His Presence is our constant companion as He “will watch over you wherever you go” Gen 31:3.
In Him we find rest for our exhausted, overwhelmed souls. “My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest.” Lev 26:12.
When we are in the worst trials and storms of life He promises that “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned” Isa 43:2.
When our hearts and spirits are shattered to pieces He is “close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Ps 34:18.
His presence brings power into our gatherings and prayer circles. “When two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them.” Mt. 18:20 and is available to anyone. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me.” Rev 3:20.
When we invite the Presence of God into our lives, we experience peace, receive spiritual nourishment for our journey, are provided all we need to live a beautifully abundant life and so much more!
No doubt Obed-Edom’s life was forever altered after experiencing God’s Holy Presence those three months.
And perhaps for the remainder of his days he told all who would listen the joy and blessings he discovered when living with the Presence of the Almighty.
