Who are you following?
Who do you share your ideas, dreams, goals, deepest secrets, innermost thoughts and hurts with?
Who is influencing your beliefs, choices, actions, confidence, self worth, present and future?
Why does it matter? Because your life will follow who you are following.
Share your goals, ideas and dreams with the wrong people and you may never see them become a reality.
Instead, you’ll wind up discouraged, disillusioned, uninspired and a reflection of them, pessimistic, self-sabotaging and average.
We become who we follow.
How do we know this? Because history proves it. The Israelites “followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless.” 2 Kings 17:10 NIV
While it seems the Old Testament is seldom referenced, it contains a vast amount of wisdom and is an example for the New Testament Christian.
Paul rightly said when referencing Old Testament experiences, “Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” 1 Cor 10:11
Paul also writes “For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Rom 15:4
And Christ beckons us to follow Him. Why? Because He knows we are influenced by those we follow.
Follow peace and become peaceful. Spend time with someone who is bitter and blames everyone else for all that is wrong in her life and soon you will be doing the same thing.
Hang out with a disciplined woman and become disciplined.
Spend time with a happy, optimistic soul and you’ll hear the sound of your own laughter more.
“He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12.
Paul wrote “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” 1 Col 15:33
And Solomon in his wisdom wrote “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise but a companion of fools will suffer harm.” Prov 13:20 “
“Can a man carry a fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned?” Prov 6:27.Who has access to your heart with the ability to burn you?
Who we follow matters, whether it’s in our inner circle, on social media or on the job.
We can’t hang out with negative and expect to become positive.
The easiest way to get inspired is to get around inspiring people, those who motivate you to go higher, level up, improve, expand and grow spiritually and personally.
Follow those you want to emulate, friend those who post the positive, spend time with people that make you think, laugh, reflect and grow.
There are some people you need to walk with and some you need to walk away from.
Because who you walk with is who you will become.
