This week of our 52 Weeks of Chic we commit to investing in our minds.
Einstein said “Once you stop learning you start dying” and while that sounds harsh it’s true.
Just like muscles atrophy when we don’t use them, our minds slowly wither without mental exercise.
We live in a world of instant information, much of it free, from online documentaries, courses, books, podcasts, videos and sermons, making investing in our minds just a click away.
We don’t have to get dressed or leave the house and there’ll never be a a pop quiz or final exams.
We get to create and choose our “curriculum” of subjects we find fascinating and learn for the sheer joy pleasure of it.
My curriculum includes classic literature, art history, geography, music appreciation and biographies. You won’t find any math or politics.
A cultured, well-read woman is a powerful woman, fully capable of holding her own in any social setting or conversation because she’s invested in her mind.
She’ll never be the woman shrinking when asked her thoughts on subjects she adores yet will gladly and boldly admit her her disinterest in topics she finds boring.
Mental investment is as much a part of our self-care as manicures, massages and bubble baths.
Life will always reflect our mental state and knowledge is power, so today we commit to investing in our minds.
This week I encourage you to create your own curriculum and invest in your mind diving into topics you find fascinating, uplifting, positive, inspiring and learn only for the sheer joy of learning.
Log off to the drama and shallowness of social media and open a book, try a new Pandora station, watch a video or listen to a podcast on topics that you are simply curious about.
Your time is the most valuable commodity you own. Are you worth investing your time into YOU?
