45 – We Thrive

Often I mention in my posts my adoration of nature and the serenity it provides.

Nature is a living, breathing textbook of lessons, inspiration and proof of God’s power, presence and provision.

Walking the trails near my home with its canopy of trees and creeks, I listen, observe and learn.

My favorite flower is the lotus. I see them when I am walking and become mesmerized as I watch them waltzing among the lily pads. They fascinate me.

The lotus tells my story. Perhaps it tells yours as well.

The lotus is specifically designed by God to thrive in murky waters with its roots firmly in mud.

Each night this resilient, magnificent flower submerges into the deep yet miraculously emerges in full bloom the next morning, glistening, clean and stunningly gorgeous.

A lotus can bloom again even after being inactive for long periods of time.  So while it may appear dead, it is still very much alive with more life remaining.

Every woman reading this has at some point walked through life’s mud unable to see beyond the dark clouds of unforeseen circumstances, heartache and pain.

How do some women get up every day even in the worst of times and flourish? How is she able to thrive in the midst of such turmoil?

How’s she at peace when she should be panicked? How is she calm though her life screams chaos, joyful and happy when all hell is breaking loose?

What’s her secret?

She understands one of the most powerful life principles and it is this: No mud. No lotus.

She knows no one’s life is immune to muddy moments. She can emotionally and spiritually die during those times or use them to increase her faith and draw her nearer to God and trust Him to see her through.

It is within the murkiness of life she realizes her need for Him as she leans in to His promises that “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lam 3:22-23.

“You have granted me life and steadfast love, and Your care has preserved my spirit.” Job 10:12

No mud. No lotus.

This week we embrace life’s mud choosing (because it is a choice) to allow it to fertilize our faith as each morning we point our faces towards the Son and we bloom. Day after day, season after season.

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;

and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” Eph 3:14-20.
