Love is: day 5

Love Is A Testimony

John wrote “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. . . . if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:7 – 8, 11

We so clearly that to love others is an expression of our love for God, it comes from God and is the evidence we know God.

Loving others is our testimony and the perfect opportunity to pay forward the love we receive from Him.

There are no stipulations or specific circumstances we are to love others in. It is not “love one another unless” but simply love one another.

Loving those who love us, who believe, dress, act, vote and think like we do? No problem. Loving those who hurt us deeply, made choices we disagree with, have a past we can’t see past?  That is a different story.

Our testimony isn’t in loving we who label worthy or deserving but when we love as God loves us in our messes and successes, our past and present, on our best days and our worst.

But John’s not finished.

He goes on to say “ . . .God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. . . .We love, because He first loved us.”

“If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.” 4:16 – 1

How we love reveals the true contents and conditions of our hearts. To love is to testify of the love that saved us and the gratitude for the love He gives us every day.

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Pet 4:8
