Doubt not only delays, it also derails, stalls and sabotages.
We often cloak our doubt in the “One Day When” belief that one day when this happens or that occurs then we’ll do what we truly want. Life is short and we aren’t guaranteed a tomorrow or a “one day when.”
How many businesses are never started, dream trips never taken, books never written, laughter never shared, friendships never cultivated, excellent health never enjoyed, personal growth never experienced – all delayed for One Day When?
Doubt not only delays but also detains us in a past we desperately want to break free from.
The quickest way to begin nothing is to start doubting.
By recalling all the reasons why we can’t have, believe or do what we really want we will convince ourselves success is unattainable.
Losing weight is impossible because we’ve tried in the past and failed. Finding a better job isn’t possible because we sent out resumes and no one hired us.
Our surroundings remain cluttered and chaotic because we attempted to get organized before and it didn’t last.
These past experiences become the framework dictating our present.
Doubt is like any other emotion, thought or belief, either serving us or serving over us, our choice.
But doubt has one ferocious, fearless enemy named “faith” and runs scared when faith walks in.
Faith would have happily transported the Israelites through the wilderness in 11 days. Doubt kept them there 40 years.
Unbelief kept them stranded in a season they desperately wanted out of yet were unable to move forward. “And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.” Heb 3:19
Every woman’s promised land may be different but none of us will reach it by doubting.
Look, if Paul had to trust in Christ daily to get through, we do too.
Doubt counts on us to remain silent. Faith requires we speak up.
Because doubt won’t just quietly slip out unnoticed, it must be forcefully kicked out by faith.
Doubt counts on us believing the enemy’s lies then becoming paralyzed by fear unable to move forward.
I’ve doubted myself, God, my abilities, callings, self-discipline, ideas, decisions and future? Have you?
My pattern was to overthink, overanalyze, procrastinate then ultimately shut down in fear. Doubt 1 Me 0. Game over.
Faith gets us out of the boat. Doubt will have us sinking in the storm. Ask Peter.
Faith has us believing in promises we have no evidence for. Ask Abraham.
Doubt is another delay tactic like procrastination that when left unchecked can be deadly to our peace, health and happiness.
Faith is the fuel that keeps us trying, believing, hoping and pursuing.
It gets tested, tried and refined as we get older, with every storm we endure, every season of heartache we suffer through, every failure we experience.
Like any muscle, the more you use faith the stronger it becomes and consequently the weaker doubt becomes.
So when doubt comes crashing through your heart, messing with your mind, sabotaging your goals and stealing your joy, stand firm in faith that God’s got this and He’s got your back.
Step out of the boat of doubt (take forward moving action) and start walking in faith towards whatever it is you really want!
