Using Your Past Purposefully

In a recent Vogue article, I read of a design house who just hired a new head designer to manage the brand.

She said she began by perusing the archives of the label’s founder to understand the brand’s history, style, taste and aesthetics that made it successful.

Her only purpose for returning to the past was to elevate the present. Those past collections served as inspiration for future designs.

This is the only reason to ever look back at our yesterdays, to provide building blocks on which to create something new.

Living in yesterdays will have us missing on today’s gifts and opportunities.

If you must look back do so with the purpose of planning for your present and future.

Look back for inspiration and motivation.  Find those moments you succeeded, achieved and learned.

Stand on the shoulders of those yesterdays in living out your today and planning your tomorrow.

Simply Stated – Dive into the archives of your past to build an extraordinary present. Don’t dig up yesterday’s garbage and stink up today’s joy.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Cor 5:17
